Peripheral Shape

A peripheral shaped artwork is one where the outer edge corresponds to the shape of the field of vision of the human eye sockets. The difference between rectangle shaped artwork (unnatural) and peripheral shaped artwork (natural) is the peripheral shape allows one to gaze at everything all at once while the eye comfortably rests. This gazing ultimately creates a oneness between the viewer and the artwork that becomes transcendental, releasing the imagination and creating the meaning.

I began working this form in 1982 after many years of mediating on rectangular borders.
